L’Arc~en~Ciel WORLD TOUR 2012 Day 1: Hong Kong

10,000 Fans Watch L’Arc~en~Ciel on Their First Date in Hong Kong
L’Arc~en~Ciel’s “L’Arc~en~Ciel WORLD TOUR 2012” world tour(1) was held last night on March 3rd at the Asia World EXPO Arena.
Its been about 4 years since their last overseas “TOUR 2008 L’7 ~Trans ASIA via PARIS~” held in 2008. This time they are traveling to over 10 countries around the world, embarking on what may become the largest world tour (for the band?). The four band members arrived at Hong Kong International Airport and were welcomed by hoards of local reporters and fans, many of whom would see the band not only at the Asia press conference, but the live too.
During the press conference L’Arc~en~Ciel vocalist hyde revealed he chose Hong Kong as the first stop “because I was received so warmly the last time I came, I thought I’d try to make Hong Kong my first stop to build up confidence.” Further more, the band’s latest album “Butterfly” has entered the charts at the top in Japan and other Asian countries as well. tetsuya, L’Arc~en~Ciel’s bassist said “After waiting 4 years and 3 months for the album’s release, I think we (should be?) very happy as a band to see fans so happy.”
The first day of the tour in Hong Kong was met with about 10,000 people coming from all around Hong Kong and a great deal of excitement. Fans were greeted with songs off the band’s latest release “BUTTERFLY” along with a wide range of hits from their endless repertoire on this February night. “MY HEART DRAWS A DREAM” and “Anata”, for example, had the audience singing along to the chorus in Japanese.
Not looking to be limited only to their musical performance, the band challenged themselves to speak their MCs in Cantonese. hyde opened with “Good evening Hong Kong! I wanted to see you!” Overjoyed, ken said to the fans “Thanks everyone, I love you!!” followed by “yesterday I went to the woman’s and man’s street (I have no idea what that is supposed to mean). Hyde came and bought souvenirs.” Hyde proceeded to hand him a gift on stage drawing laughter from the audience.
The band will make a triumphant return to Japan in 2 months time for lives at Kanagawa Nissan Stadium and Osaka Universal Studios in May. In addition, the March 26th (Japan time) will be simulcasted in 29 theaters across Japan. Let’s enjoy watching the stage both here afar.
